Note: Here, the function u is the function on the numerator and v is the function on the denominator. Notice also the order of the contents of the numerator. This is important as they have to be in that order due to there being a minus.

Note: Like the product rule, you can get questions in which where you need to differentiate the expression to a given form, requiring additional algebraic manipulation, like the above practice question. Also, you may need to use the chain rule or even they can combine the product and quotient rules so it is important to understand all three rules well.
